Trumpeter Lee Morgan played alongside some of the biggest names in the late fifties era of hard bop jazz, including John Coltrane and Art Blakey, before stepping out on his own and making a name for himself as one of the most indispensable names on the Blue Note Records lineup. A successful stint with Blakey and the Jazz Messengers led to Morgan releasing such notable records as Sidewinder (1963), Cornbread (1967), and Search for the New Land (1964).
To help pay tribute to the sound of Lee Morgan, the Ziad Jazz Quartet will welcome trumpet player Justin Ray to the Jazz at the Bechtler stage. Together, they will cover many of Morgan’s most beloved songs, including “Sidewinder”, “Ceora”, and “Mr. Kenyatta”.
